Manchester United are preparing to offload Jadon Sancho in January – with the winger having shown no desire to end his feud with Erik ten Hag.
Sancho has been training away from United’s first-team squad for the past six-and-a-half weeks, since being exiled by boss Ten Hag for effectively calling him a liar in public.
Ten Hag claimed Sancho was left out of the squad for United’s 3-1 defeat at Arsenal on September 3 because of his poor training performances that week.
Within hours of Ten Hag making the claim, Sancho took to social media to refute his manager’s words, leading to the 23-year-old being banished by his manager, pending an apology.
Sancho wrote: “Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that [are] completely untrue. I have conducted myself in training very well this week. I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, I have been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!
“All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team. I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and [I’m] grateful to do so which I know every week is a challenge. I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!”
As revealed by Mirror Sport on September 26, Sancho’s United team-mates, including Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw, have all urged him to make his peace with Ten Hag. But with Sancho seemingly unwilling to compromise and swallow his pride, senior United figures are now making plans for his exit in January’s upcoming transfer window.
United paid Borussia Dortmund £73million for England star Sancho in 2021, but he has failed to justify that exorbitant fee, scoring 12 goals in 82 appearances for the Red Devils.
Last season, Sancho was given almost three months off by Ten Hag to deal with physical and mental issues, but made little impact on his return, before this season’s spectacular fall-out.
United know they will take a big hit on the fee they paid Dortmund for Sancho, with the former Manchester City youngster’s market value having almost halved to around £40m.
But Ten Hag is refusing to allow Sancho back into his plans until he makes a sincere apology and, with none forthcoming, United are drawing up plans to jettison him in the New Year.
Sancho’s former club Dortmund could provide him with an escape route from United, but the winger’s well-documented disciplinary issues have put some clubs off moving for him.
