The Nigerian international who was making his 15th appearance, and has netted nine goals and bagged seven assists this ongoing season.
His compatriot, Nathan Tella was also in action for Leverkusen for the last eight minutes of the encounter.
Super Eagles defender, Kevin Akpoguma was in action for Hoffenheim in their 3-1 defeat at RB Leipzig in Saturday’s Bundesliga game. The Nigerian international has made nine appearance this ongoing season and has received five yellow cards. The 28-year-old came on as a substitute for Ozan Kabak in the 75th minute.
In the Premier League, Super Eagles midfielder, Frank Onyeka was in action as Brentford lost 2-1 to Aston Villa in Sunday’s Premier League game. The Nigerian international, who was making his 15th appearance thus ongoing season, has bagged one assist for the club. Onyeka came on as a substitute for Mikkel Damsgaard in the 68th minute.
At the St. James’ Park, Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi featured for Fulham in their 3-0 defeat away at Newcastle on Saturday. Iwobi, making his 13th league appearance for Fulham played for 76 minutes in the encounter.
In Italy, Victor Osimhen scored and provided a world class assist for Napoli in their 2-1 home win over Cagliari on Saturday. The recently crowned 2023 CAF Player of the Year winner opened the scoring in the 69th minute with a towering header.
Just three minutes later after Osimhen’s opener, Cagliari equalised through Leonardo Pavoletti. But in the 75th minute Napoli got their second goal thanks to Kvicha Kvaratskhelia from a brilliant assist from Osimhen. Osimhen has now registered seven goals with two assists in the league this season.
Samuel Chukwueze featured as a substitute in AC Milan’s comfortable 3-0 victory against Monza at the San Siro on Sunday. Chukwueze took the place of Noah Okafor 10 minutes from time. It was the 24-year-old’s 12th league appearance for the Rossoneri this season.
In Scotland, Cyriel Dessers and Leon Balogun were in action for Rangers who defeated Aberdeen 1-0 to win this season’s Scottish League Cup title. Dessers and Balogun played for 90 minutes as Rangers landed their 28th League Cup title in Sunday’s final at Hampden Park.
Balogun, 35, has now won his third major title at Rangers, after winning the Scottish Premiership in the 2020/21 season and the Scottish Cup in the 2021/22 campaign. For Dessers this is his second major trophy following his triumph in the Belgian Cup with Genk in 2021.
In France, Moses Simon was in action from start to finish for Nantes as they lost 0-2 at home to Brest on Sunday. Simone, making his 16th league appearance this season has scored three goals with four assists.
In Spain, Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq was in action for 58 minutes for Real Sociedad in their goalless draw against Real Betis on Sunday. Sadiq was making his 15th league appearance of the season, and has registered two goals.
In Czech Republic, Victor Olatunji came off the bench to score the winner in Sparta Prague’s hard-earned 2-1 home victory over Teplice on Sunday. The 24-year-old came on in the 79th minute and scored the winning goal in the 90th minute to register his second league goal of the season.
In women’s football, Super Falcons Toni Payne scored her third goal of the season to help Sevilla earn a 1-1 draw at home against Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish women’s league on Sunday. The 28-year-old leveled for her team in added minutes of halftime.
In another game, Super Flacons duo of Asisat Oshoala and Monday Gift were both in action for Barcelona and Tenerife respectively, as Barcelona won 2-0 away from home on Sunday. Monday Gift came on for Tenerife in the 59th minute, while Oshoala Caroline Hansen in the 75th minute.
