Chelsea striker Sam Kerr has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during the team’s warm-weather training camp in Morocco and will likely miss the remainder of the season.
According to Chelsea, she will start her recovery after being evaluated by a doctor in the next few days.
The 30-year-old Australia captain signed for Chelsea in 2019 and has scored 99 goals in 128 games.
Kerr has won the Women’s Community Shield, three FA Cups, two Women’s League Cups, and four WSL crowns while playing for Chelsea. Manchester City are currently trailing the Blues in the Women’s Super League by three points.
She has also won the Golden Boot twice, and at last year’s Ballon d’Or honours, she finished second behind Aitana Bonmati of Spain.
She will miss Chelsea’s remaining games as well as Australia’s Olympic qualifying match against Uzbekistan next month. If Australia qualifies, she won’t be at the Summer Olympics in Paris.
