Chelsea full-back Ian Maatsen has agreed to join German side Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the season.
In order to finalise the arrangement until the summer, which does not involve an option or obligation to buy, Maatsen is expected to have his medical in the coming days.
Dortmund are expected to cover Maatsen’s full salary, and it’s believed that if Maatsen does well on loan in Germany, it might help raise his market value in the summer. After making significant signings during the last three transfer windows, the Blues are probably willing to sell the 21-year-old in the summer in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.
Burnley made a £31.5 million offer for Maatsen in the summer, but he decided to stay at Chelsea. This season, he has only made three starts and made a total of twelve appearances off the bench.
The 21-year-old was named in the Championship team of the season after helping Burnley win the Championship during his loan spell with the Clarets last season.
