Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out for “a few weeks” with a knee injury. The England international suffered the injury during Liverpool’s 2-0 FA Cup third round win against Arsenal at the Emirates stadium on Sunday.
Pep Lijnders, the assistant manager of Liverpool, made the announcement prior to the team’s Carabao Cup semifinal first-leg match against Fulham on Wednesday.
“He has a little tear in the lateral ligament of his knee and he will need time to recover,” said Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders. “He had a scan and he will be out for a few weeks, so let’s see after that.”
Alexander-Arnold, who has been essential to Liverpool this season in a dual role as a right-back and midfielder, is expected to be out for three weeks. As a result, he will miss both Carabao Cup semi-final legs against Fulham, a league game trip to Bournemouth, and the club’s FA Cup fourth round tie.
The defender might also not be fit for Liverpool’s January 31 home game against Chelsea and their crucial February 4 trip to Arsenal in the Premier League.
