Lobi Stars maintained top spot after edging visiting Plateau United 1-0 at the Aper Aku Stadium on Sunday. Kumaga Suur scored the only goal of the game in the 23rd minute to earn the Makurdi team all the three points. The win took Lobi to 36 points, one point above second placed Remo Stars.
In Ikenne, Remo Stars kept pace with leaders Lobi with a hard fought 2-1 home win over Abia Warriors on Sunday. Dela Akorli opened the scoring to put the Daniel Ogunmodede’s team infront nice minutes into the game, and Ahmed Akinyele doubled the lead in the 63rd minute. However, Sunday Megwo pulled one back for Abia Warriors six minutes later.
At the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Shooting Stars suffered a 2-1 home loss to Enyimba International of Aba on Sunday. Mbaoma Chijioke put the People’s Elephant in front form the penalty spot in the 56th minute, but Kareem Ademola equalised for 3SC in the 83rd minute. However, Enyimba ran away with all three points after Izuogu Chibueze scored the winner in added minutes of stoppage time.
Doma United played out a 1-1 draw against Rivers United on Saturday. Rivers United took the lead through Bernard Kouassi five minutes into first half added time, but Nelson Abiam scored a wonderful bicycle kick from outside the box in stoppage time of the game to rescue a point for Doma United.
In Benin City, Sporting Lagos continued their poor run of form as they lost 3-1 to Bendel Insurance on Saturday. Insurance started like a house on fire after Junior Osaghae, Chukwudi Meze and Divine Nwachukwu’s goals put them 3-0 up. However, Henry Ndedi got a consolation goal for the Lagosians in added minutes of the game. While Insurance returned to winning ways, Sporting Lagos are now without a win in their last seven games.
At the Ilorin township stadium, Kwara United defeated Sunshine Stars of Akure 1-0 to end their back-to-back defeats. Emmanuel Ogbole scored the only goal of the game in the 15th minute. Sunshine Stars remain without a win in their last three games.
Other fixtures saw Akwa United pip Rangers 1-0, Kano Pillars edged Heartland 2-1, Niger Tornadoes and Katsina United played goalless and Bayelsa United held Gombe United to a 1-1.
