Liverpool saw off Fulham in the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Thursday night to set up a final showdown with Chelsea at Wembley on 25 February, in what will be a repeat of the 2022 final between the two sides.
The Reds were leading 2-1 from the first leg at Anfield and their draw at Craven Cottage was enough to send them through.
Luis Diaz put Liverpool in front in the 11th minute, but Issa Diop equalised for Fulham in the 76th minute to ensure a tense finale late in the game.
Another Fulham goal would have sent the tie to extra time and Wilson’s long-range strike was saved by Caoimhin Kelleher.
But the Cottagers could not find a second goal despite pushing for one and their wait for a first EFL Cup final goes on.
Chelsea booked their place at Wembley on Tuesday with a 6-2 win over Championship side Middlesbrough, who won the first leg 1-0.
Liverpool have qualified for their 14th League Cup final, four more than any other side. It is the third time they have done so under Jurgen Klopp, with only Bob Paisley doing so more often as Reds boss.
In the 2023-24 League Cup, Liverpool and Chelsea are set to contest a domestic cup final for a third time in the last three seasons – they faced in both the FA Cup and League Cup finals in 2021-22, with both games ending 0-0 and won on penalties by Liverpool.
