Kalvin Phillips has joined West Ham on loan from Premier League champions Manchester City for the rest of the season with no option to buy.
The 28-year-old has only made 31 appearances for City since a £45m transfer from Leeds in July 2022; manager Pep Guardiola admitted in December he cannot envisage the England midfielder in his team.
West Ham will pay a loan fee and cover Phillips’ salary for the duration of his time at the London Stadium.
“There’s so much to look forward to in the second half of the season. I can’t wait to be part of it,” Phillips said after putting pen to paper.
“There’s an unbelievable group here and if I can come in and add the quality that I know I’m capable of, I’m sure we can give the West Ham fans plenty to be excited about between now and the end of the season.”
The midfielder made just two starts and 16 total Premier League appearances in his 18 months at the Etihad Stadium as he struggled for game time under Guardiola.
Guardiola has sent the England international his best wishes to succeed at West Ham. The manager admits he feels responsible for Phillips’ lack of game time and hopes he sees more action with the Hammers.
