Former Chelsea star Eden Hazard has disagreed with Cristiano Ronaldo over his comment that the Saudi Pro League is more competitive than the French Ligue 1. Hazard disclosed this in an interview on the Obi One Podcast, hosted by John Obi Mikel.
Eden Hazard was asked about his thoughts on Cristiano Ronaldo’s comments on the quality of Ligue 1. Speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards, the former Manchester United attacker claimed the Saudi Pro League was of a higher standard than Ligue 1.
“The Saudi League is not worse than Ligue 1. It is actually more competitive than the French League. I can say that after spending one year there. We are better than the French league now.” Ronaldo said.
Hazard, who played in Ligue 1 with Lille, was asked about the comments and if he agreed with the Portugal international. The former Chelsea winger said, “I don’t agree with him. I’m sure if a Ligue 1 team played against a Saudi Arabian team, they would win. Maybe not easily, like people might think, but the level in France is good.”
The former Belgian international spent five years with Lille in the French League from 2007 – 2012, and he become the youngest player to win the Ligue 1 Player of the Year award in 2011.
