Super Falcons of Nigeria have progressed into the final qualifying round of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, after a 1-0 win over the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon at the MKO Abiola stadium, Abuja on Monday.
Esther Okoronkwo was the hero as her 14th minute strike was enough to send the Falcons through. Nigeria won the two legged encounter 1-0 on aggregate after the first leg ended goalless in Douala last Friday.
The Super Falcons are seeking a first Olympic qualification since the 2008 games in Beijing. The Falcons have since failed to qualify for three consecutive editions in 2012, 2016, and 2020.
Nigeria will face the winner of the two legged tie between South Africa and Tanzania in the final qualifying round. The Bayana Bayana of South Africa won the first leg 3-0 away and are heavily fancied to go through.
