Rivers United of Nigeria have been drawn against title-holders, USM Alger of Algeria in the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup. The draw was made in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday.
The Stanley Eguma team finished second in Group C with 12 points from six games, behind Dreams FC who top the group with same number of points but with better goals difference. The Nigerian club won all four home matches to make the last eight, but were less impressive on the road with only one victory, a draw and two defeats.
They’ve reached the quarter-finals of the Confederation Cup for the second straight season. They lost 2-0 on aggregate to Young Africans of Tanzania in the quarterfinals last season.
The Pride of Rivers are hoping to become the first Nigerian football club to win an African club competition since Enyimba defeated Hearts of Oak 2-0 after extra time to lift the CAF Super Cup in 2005.
First leg of the games will go down on April 21, while second legs will be played on April 28.
