Super Falcons of Nigeria recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Banyana Banyana of South Africa in the first leg of qualifiers for the football event of Paris 2024 Olympics.
The game went down at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, on Friday, with Rasheed Ajibade scoring the only goal of the game from the penalty spot two minutes before half time.
Randy Waldrum’s ladies kept their slender lead through the second half despite the South Africans efforts to get back in the game.
It’s the Falcons first win over the South Africans since beating them on penalties to win the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Falcons will now have to preserve their advantage in the 2nd leg in Pretoria on Tuesday April 9. The winner over the two legs will qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris.
