Enugu Rangers maintained top spot in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after a 2-0 victory over Plateau United on Sunday. Chiedozie Okorie opened the scoring in the 26th minute, while former NPFL top scorer Godwin Obaje added the second deep into stoppage time.
In Aba, Champions Enyimba keep pressure on Rangers following a 1-0 win over Katsina United on Sunday. Chijioke Mbaoma scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot in the 59th minute. Enyimba occupy the second position with 55 points, two points behind leaders Rangers.
At the Lekan Salami Stadium, Shooting Stars of Ibadan defeated Sunshine Stars of Akure 2-0 in their Southwest derby on Sunday. Taofeeq Malomo opened the scoring for 3SC in the 57th minute, while Christian Pyagbara doubled the lead in the 89th minute, as Shooting move back to 4th on the log.
At the Pantami Stadium, Gombe United beat Lobi Stars 3-2 on Sunday. Lobi Stars took the lead through Stephen Eneji in the first minute, but the hosts fought back scoring thrice through Emmanuel Michael and a brace from Anayor Ogbonna. Stanley Oganbor reduced the deficit for Lobi Stars in the 90th minute.
In Lagos, Sporting Lagos defeated Abia Warriors 4-2. Jonathan Alukwu scored twice for the hosts with Peter Onyekachi and Junior Lokosa also on target.
Akwa United boosted their survival hopes with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Kano Pillars at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo. Ubong Friday bagged a brace, while Saidu Mubarak scored the third goal.
Remo returned to winning ways after a 3-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes on Friday. Sikiru Alimi scored twice in two minutes, while Akinyele Ahmed scored the third goal.
The NPFL will now go on a month break in order to give room to teams with outstanding matches to play their outstanding matches. The league will resume on the 25th of May.
