Thiago Silva will return to Fluminese once he leaves Chelsea later in the month. The 39-year-old was announced as a Fluminense player on social media with the tagline “The monster is back” on Tuesday.
Chelsea revealed that Silva will link up with the team early and leave after the final game of the season on 19 May. The defender once played for the Brazilian club between 2006- 2009 before moving to AC Milan.
A statement read: “Chelsea have agreed with Thiago that he can join up early with his new teammates after signing a two-year contract with the Brazilian club.
“Thiago will be allowed to train with Fluminense prior to his registration transferring on July 1.”
He will join the Brazilian outfit on a free transfer following the expiry of his deal at Stamford Bridge.
He is not the only notable player to be in the squad of Fluminenese. His new team-mates will include the likes of former Real Madrid star Marcelo, ex-Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa and Marquinhos who is on loan from Arsenal.
The Brazilian joined Chelsea on a free transfer from Paris St-Germain in 2020 and has made 152 appearances for the Blues. Silva won three trophies in that time, including the 2020-21 Champions League.
