Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George will be assisted by his former Super Eagles teammate Daniel Amokachi and two foreign expatriates. Finidi named Amokachi and his other backroom staff at his unveiling as the new Eagles coach by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) on Monday morning.
Amokachi is returning to familiar terrain having worked as an assistant to late coaches, Shaibu Amodu and Stephen Keshi in the past. Finidi has also retained Olatunji Baruwa, the goalkeeper’s trainer under the previous head coach, Jose Peseiro.
Benjamin James who will serve as the second assistant has been working at German Bundesliga club Hoffenheim for over a decade. James made a name for himself while playing for the defunct Police Machine team in Lagos before moving to the famous Stationary Stores Football Club of Lagos.
The 53-year-old also played for Shooting Stars of Ibadan before moving to Europe where he featured for clubs in Italy and Germany.
Finidi has also settled for Chima Onyeike as his fitness trainer, Onyeike was born in the Netherlands to a Nigerian father. The former striker played for top clubs in Holland including Dordrecht, VVV Venlo and Cambuur among others during his active days.
The 48-year-old has worked as fitness coach at Russian club Anzhi Makhackala, Greek club PAOK and Bundesliga outfit VFB Stuttgart.
Mehmet Ozturk, a Turkish will function as the match analyst.
In order to focus on his new role, Finidi formally resigned from his position as head coach of NPFL champions Enyimba on Sunday.
His first official game in charge of the Super Eagles will be the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Friday, June 7.
