Southampton defeated Leeds United 1-0 at Wembley in the Championship play-off final on Sunday to seal their immediate return to the Premier League. Adam Armstrong is the man of the moment, after scoring a wonderful first-half winner for Saints.
Adam Armstrong scored the decisive goal with a clinical finish in the 24th minute, after being put clear by Will Smallbone. It was his 24th goal of the season for Southampton.
Southampton went into the game with a psychological advantage over their opponents – having done the league double over Leeds during the regular season.
Defeat for Leeds consigns them to another season in the Championship and means they have now lost their past three finals at Wembley without scoring.
The Saints got relegated to the Championship after 11 years in the top flight last season, but have now joined Leicester City and Ipswich in going up to the Premier League.
Southampton will also be going home with £140m for wining the Championship play-off final.
