In France, Nigerian forward Akor Adams bagged a brace to help Montpellier beat Auxerre 3-2 in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday. The 24-year old equalised for Montpellier in the 65th minute after the opponent took the lead in the 18th minute. Adams then got his brace, and the winning goal 15 minutes from time to earn his club their first win of the season.
In another venue, Moses Simon provided an assist as Nantes held Angers to a 1-1 draw in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday. It is Simon’s second assist in five league appearances for Nantes so far this season. He has also scored two goals. Simon Sets Up Johann Lepenant for the opening goal in the 18th minute but Himad Abdelli equalised for Angers on 24 minutes from the penalty spot.
In Germany, Victor Boniface scored a stoppage-time winner to give Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen a thrilling 4-3 win over Wolfsburg on Sunday. The Nigerian striker came on with 22 minutes remaining, and scored a 93rd-minute winner. The 23-year-old has now scored three goals with one assist in four league matches this season.
In England, Alex Iwobi got an assist for Fulham in their 3-1 Premier League win over Newcastle United at Craven Cottage on Saturday. Iwobi set up Emile Smith Rowe for Fulham’s second goal in the 22nd minute. The assist, which was Iwobi’s 30th, means he is now the Nigerian player with the highest assist in the Premier League. Calvin Bassey also featured for 90 minutes in the colours of Fulham in the game.
Super Eagles defender Ola Aina played all 90 minutes as Nottingham Forest held Brighton to a 2-2 draw in Sunday’s Premier League game. Aina who was making his 5th appearance for Nottingham Forest, received a yellow card in the game. However, his Nigerian international Taiwo Awoniyi was an unused substitute.
Wilfred Ndidi put in a solid midfield shift for Leicester City, as they battle to a 1-1 draw at home against Everton on Saturday. Ndidi played the entire duration of the game.
In the Championship, Josh Maja was on target for the second game in a row for West Brom, as they defeated Plymouth 1-0 on Saturday. Maja scored the only goal of the game in the 62nd minute. The 25-year old has now scored six goals in six league appearances this season. His compatriot, Semi Ajayi was also in action for West Brom in the game, as he put in a good defensive effort.
In Scotland, Cyriel Dessers scored two goals as Rangers defeated Dundee 3-0 in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup on Saturday. The Nigerian striker opened the scoring in the 18th minute, and got his brace in the 66th minute. The 29-year old has now scored seven goals with two assists in nine games in all competitions this season.
In Turkey, Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen made a standout contribution with a world-class assist for Galatasaray in their 3-1 victory over Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super Lig, on Saturday night. Recall that Osimhen who joined the Turkish side on loan from Napoli, also provided an assist last week in his debut match against Çaykur Rizespor.
In Belgium, Tolu Arokodare scored his 6th goal of the season in KRC Genk’s 4-0 home victory over Dender on Sunday. The Nigerian forward opened the scoring in the 23rd minute of the game.
In Italy, Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye failed to keep a clean sheet as Roma defeated Udinese 3-0 in Sunday’s Serie A game. The Nigerian international, who was making his fifth appearance, has conceded seven goals this ongoing season for Udinese.
Samuel Chukwueze was in action for AC Milan in their 2-1 victory over Inter in the Milan derby on Sunday. The Nigerian international came on as a substitute for Leao in the 87th minute.
In Women’s football, Super Falcons star Rasheedat Ajibade scored two goals, and also provided an assist in Atletico de Madrid Femenino 4-0 away victory over Valencia on Saturday. Ajibade scored in the 37th and 90th minute of the game. She also assisted Gabriela Garcia for the opening goal in the 15th minute.
