The stage is set for the 13th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 5 to July 26, 2025. Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been drawn in Group B alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana.
The Super Falcons, nine-time champions of the tournament, will look forward to facing Algeria’s Green Ladies once again. The two teams recently clashed in Nigeria during a pair of friendly matches, where the Falcons triumphed with 2-0 and 4-1 victories. These previous encounters could give Nigeria an edge as they prepare for a high-stakes group stage.
Botswana, another Group B contender, booked their spot in the tournament by defeating Gabon in the qualifying series. Meanwhile, Tunisia will be eager to build on their success as quarterfinalists from the last edition, also hosted in Morocco.
The tournament draw was conducted on Friday evening at the Technical Centre of the Mohamed VI Football Complex in Sale, near Rabat. Host nation Morocco finds itself in Group A with Zambia, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Group C, often referred to as the “group of death,” features defending champions South Africa alongside Ghana, Mali, and Tanzania.
Morocco, the 2022 runners-up, will aim to go one step further this time after narrowly losing to South Africa in the final of the last edition. Zambia, who secured bronze in 2022 by edging out Nigeria 1-0 in the third-place match, will also be looking to make a strong impression.
