Bayer Leverkusen has been dealt a significant blow as their star striker, Victor Boniface, is set to miss the remainder of the year due to injury. The 23-year-old suffered a muscle fiber tear in his right thigh during Nigeria’s 2-1 defeat to Rwanda on Monday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
After returning from international duty, Boniface was unable to participate in Thursday’s training session, raising concerns about his fitness. Subsequent evaluations confirmed the severity of the injury, ruling him out for the rest of 2024. This means the forward will not feature for the Bundesliga side in early 2025 either.
This is not the first time Boniface has faced an extended absence. Last season, he was sidelined for approximately three months due to an adductor injury sustained while preparing for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria.
Despite these setbacks, Boniface has had a stellar season under head coach Xabi Alonso, scoring eight goals in 15 appearances across all competitions. His absence is undoubtedly a significant loss for Bayer Leverkusen as they look to maintain their momentum in domestic and European campaigns.
The club and fans alike will be hoping for a speedy recovery for their prolific striker.
