In a thrilling London derby, Chelsea staged a remarkable comeback from two goals down to defeat Tottenham 4-3, narrowing the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool to just four points.
Tottenham came out firing, capitalizing on early Chelsea mistakes to take a commanding 2-0 lead within 11 minutes. Dominic Solanke opened the scoring, followed by Dejan Kulusevski, with both goals aided by Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella slipping—an issue that forced him to change his boots mid-match.
Despite the shaky start, Chelsea responded brilliantly. In the 17th minute, Jadon Sancho reignited hope for the visitors with a stunning strike from outside the box, curling a low shot off the post and into the net.
The second half saw Chelsea take control. Moises Caicedo earned a penalty after drawing a reckless challenge from Yves Bissouma, and Cole Palmer coolly converted the spot-kick in the 61st minute to level the score.
Enzo Fernandez then turned the tide completely in Chelsea’s favor with a powerful near-post volley in the 73rd minute. Spurs’ defensive vulnerabilities were exposed again when Pape Matar Sarr conceded another penalty, allowing Palmer to execute a cheeky Panenka in the 84th minute, extending Chelsea’s lead to 4-2.
Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son managed a stoppage-time consolation goal, but it wasn’t enough to salvage a point as Chelsea held firm for their fourth consecutive league victory.
The win lifts Chelsea to second place, just four points behind Liverpool, who still have a game in hand after their match against Everton was postponed.
For Spurs, it’s another bitter blow. This marks the second time this season they’ve squandered a two-goal lead, following their 3-2 loss to Brighton. With back-to-back defeats, Tottenham now sit in 11th place, seven points adrift of the top four, increasing pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou to turn things around.
Chelsea’s resurgence continues, and with momentum on their side, they look set to mount a serious challenge in the title race.
