Enyimba’s hopes of advancing in the CAF Confederation Cup came to an end on Sunday night after a 3-1 loss to Zamalek at the Cairo International Stadium. The defeat marked the conclusion of a challenging campaign for the Nigerian champions, who finished third in Group D with five points from six matches.
Zamalek opened the scoring in the 29th minute when Mustafa Shalaby found the back of the net, putting the Egyptian side in control. Shortly after the halftime break, Seifeddine Jaziri doubled the lead in the 48th minute, leaving Enyimba with a mountain to climb.
The visitors showed resilience as Ifeanyi Ihemekwele pulled one back in the 57th minute to give the team a glimmer of hope. However, Jaziri sealed the victory for Zamalek with his second goal of the night in the 87th minute, ensuring the hosts secured all three points.
Elsewhere in Group D, Al Masry defeated Mozambique’s Black Bulls 3-1 to clinch second place in the group and advance to the knockout stages.
