It was a weekend to remember for Nigerian footballers abroad as several Super Eagles players found the back of the net, provided assists, or delivered solid performances for their respective clubs.
Turkey: Osimhen Off the Mark for Galatasaray
Victor Osimhen opened his scoring account for the season in style on Sunday, helping Galatasaray cruise to a commanding 4-0 away victory over Kayserispor. The Nigerian striker, making his first start of the campaign, struck in the 86th minute to seal the win. With that result, Galatasaray maintained their perfect start to the season, winning all three of their opening fixtures.
France: Moffi Back Among the Goals
In French Ligue 1, Terem Moffi came off the bench to make an immediate impact for OGC Nice in their 3-1 victory over Auxerre. Introduced in the 73rd minute, Moffi scored just three minutes later with a well-placed header — his first goal of the season. The forward, who endured a long spell on the sidelines last year due to injury, looks to be regaining his sharpness.
Meanwhile, Moses Simon got on the scoresheet for Paris FC, but his strike wasn’t enough to prevent a heavy 5-2 defeat to Marseille. Gabriel Osho also featured for Auxerre in the clash against Nice, while Chidozie Awaziem played the full 90 minutes in Nantes’ narrow 1-0 loss to Strasbourg.
Germany: Mixed Fortunes in the Bundesliga
Over in Germany, Nathan Tella was involved for Bayer Leverkusen but couldn’t prevent his side from falling 2-1 to Hoffenheim. The winger was replaced late on in the 85th minute. His compatriot, Kevin Akpoguma, featured for Hoffenheim, coming on in the 75th minute to help secure the win.
England: Iwobi Assists Against Man United
In the Premier League, Alex Iwobi delivered a standout display for Fulham, providing the assist for his side’s goal in a 1-1 draw against Manchester United. His compatriot Calvin Bassey also featured for the Cottagers in the encounter.
Elsewhere, Frank Onyeka came off the bench in Brentford’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa, helping his side hold on for their first league victory of the season.
At Selhurst Park, Ola Aina put in a solid defensive shift for Nottingham Forest, playing the full 90 minutes in their 1-1 draw away at Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Italy: Dele-Bashiru Makes Serie A Bow
In Italy, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru was in action for Lazio in their 2-0 defeat to Como. The midfielder started the game but was substituted with 15 minutes left to play.
