It was a weekend filled with goals, assists, and strong performances from Nigerian internationals across Europe’s top leagues. From France to Turkey, the Super Eagles left their mark.
Simon Steals the Show in France
In Ligue 1, Moses Simon delivered a man-of-the-match performance as Paris FC edged Metz 3-2 on Sunday. The winger was electric, scoring the winner in the 67th minute after earlier setting up Ilan Kebbal’s goal. Simon, now with two goals this season, is quickly becoming a key figure for Paris in his debut campaign.
Meanwhile, Terem Moffi featured for Nice in their 3-1 defeat to Le Havre. The striker, who came on in the 67th minute, added some attacking spark but couldn’t prevent his side from slipping to defeat. Moffi has one goal to his name so far this season.
Osimhen and Onuachu On Target in Turkey
Over in Turkey, Victor Osimhen was on the scoresheet again as Galatasaray cruised past Rizespor 3-1. The reigning Turkish champions went 2-0 up thanks to Osimhen’s composed finish in the 65th minute, marking his second goal in as many games. The striker is beginning to look settled in his second stint with the Istanbul giants.
Elsewhere, Paul Onuachu found the net for Trabzonspor in their 1-1 draw against Samsunspor. He opened the scoring in the 16th minute, making it two goals for the season before being subbed off late in the game.
Tella Impresses in Germany
In the Bundesliga, Nathan Tella registered an assist in Bayer Leverkusen’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Werder Bremen. The winger teed up Patrick Schick for the opener just five minutes in and worked tirelessly for 87 minutes before being replaced. Fellow Nigerian Victor Bonifacewas notably absent from the squad.
Mixed Fortunes in the Premier League
In England, Frank Onyeka grabbed an assist for Brentford in their 2-1 loss to Sunderland. His clever pass set up Thiago for the opener in the 77th minute, but it wasn’t enough to secure points for the Bees.
At the City Ground, Ola Aina played the full 90 minutes for Nottingham Forest in their 3-0 defeat to West Ham — their first league loss of the season. Striker Taiwo Awoniyi was left out of the squad.
For Fulham, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey couldn’t stop their side from falling 2-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Bassey saw out the full match while Iwobi was taken off in the closing stages.
