The South West derby at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, lived up to expectations as Shooting Stars and Ikorodu City settled for a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Sodiq Ibrahim struck early for 3SC in the 10th minute, but Shola Adelani restored parity for the visitors right on the stroke of half-time. For the Oluyole Warriors, the wait for a first win of the season continues after three outings.
Meanwhile, defending champions Remo Stars flexed their title credentials once again, edging Warri Wolves 1-0 in at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta. Samson Olasupo popped up with the decisive strike in the 77th minute, keeping the Sky Blue Stars unbeaten and lifting them to the top of the table.
Elsewhere, Enugu Rangers finally got off the mark for the campaign with a convincing 2-0 win over Plateau United at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium. Goals from Chidozie Iwundu and Chidiebere Nwobodo sealed the Flying Antelopes’ first three points.
In Bauchi, Wikki Tourists extended their solid start to the season, grinding out a 1-0 win against Abia Warriors thanks to Jonathan Mairiga’s 77th-minute strike.
Over in Aba, Enyimba were left frustrated after being held to a goalless draw by Nasarawa United, while Rivers United also failed to break down El-Kanemi Warriors in another 0-0 stalemate.
At the Sani Abacha Stadium, newcomers Barau FC and Bendel Insurance played out an entertaining 1-1 draw. Alex Oweilayefa gave Insurance an early seventh-minute lead, before Yahaya Ibrahim replied just before half-time for the hosts.
Kwara United finally picked up their first win of the season in Ilorin, brushing aside Kun Khalidat FC 2-0. New arrivals Shirsha Johnmark and Kingsley Obiora were the heroes, finding the net in the 24th and 82nd minutes respectively.
The fierce North West derby ended in delight for Katsina United, who claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win over rivals Kano Pillars. The Changi Boys have now recorded back-to-back victories after their opening day setback.
