Nigeria’s Flamingos wrapped up their Group D campaign at the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco in style, defeating Samoa 4–0 to secure their first win of the tournament — and a spot in the Round of 16.
It was a dominant performance from start to finish, with Queen Joseph stealing the spotlight. The young forward opened the scoring in the 13th minute, firing home a confident strike to give Nigeria an early lead. She doubled her tally just 15 minutes later, calmly slotting past the Samoa goalkeeper in the 28th minute to make it 2–0.
The Flamingos continued to press, and their persistence paid off when Shakirat Moshood converted a penalty in the 34th minute, extending Nigeria’s advantage to three goals before halftime.
In the second half, Azeezat Oduntan put the result beyond doubt with a well-taken finish in the 67th minute, sealing an emphatic 4–0 victory for Bankole Olowookere’s side.
The result was exactly what Nigeria needed after a challenging start to the tournament, following a 4–1 defeat to Canada in their opener and a 1–0 loss to France in their second match.
With this resounding win, the Flamingos advance to the Round of 16 as one of the top four third-placed teams — and with renewed confidence that they can go even further in Morocco.
