Premier League leaders Arsenal needed a 94th-minute winner to see off bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Wanderers, with a 2-1 victory at the Emirates.
As expected, the hosts immediately dominated proceedings with Bukayo Saka floating in an early cross that Jurrien Timber headed over.
Despite the Gunners’ dominance, Hwang Hee-Chan had the game’s first shot on target in the 27th minute, as he sprinted away from Arsenal’s chasing defenders but saw his eventual effort routinely saved by David Raya.
That moment still caused an issue for Mikel Arteta with Ben White going off injured shortly after.
The Gunners were frequently frustrated by a stubborn five-man Wolves defence and took until the 70th minute to take the lead, when Bukayo Saka’s curling corner was pushed on to the post by Sam Johnstone and the ball bounced off the goalkeeper’s back to put them ahead.
Martin Odegaard, Victor Gyokeres and Leandro Trossard all fired wide as Arsenal looked for a buffer before the visitors applied some pressure of their own and scored a dramatic equaliser in the 90th minute.
Wolves worked the ball out wide, and Mateus Mane fizzed in a ball that Tolu Arokodare headed past Raya, sparking bedlam in the away end.
Arsenal supporters had their heads in their hands as it appeared the Gunners had handed title rivals Manchester City the chance to move level on points against Crystal Palace on Sunday – before the final act in the late drama.
Saka cut in from the right before curling a cross towards substitute Gabriel Jesus, and Mosquera, trying to head clear, glanced the ball past his own keeper to the unbridled joy – and immense relief – of the home support.
The victory means the Gunners are five points clear of Manchester City, and can focus on a tough trip to Everton next week.
