Nigeria’s Super Eagles secured qualification for the round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a 3–2 victory over Tunisia on Saturday.
The Super Eagles controlled possession in the opening stages and limited Tunisia’s attacking opportunities. Victor Osimhen appeared to have given Nigeria an early lead in the 17th minute after reacting to a rebound, but the effort was ruled offside.
Nigeria eventually broke the deadlock shortly before halftime when Osimhen headed home a well-delivered cross from Ademola Lookman in the 44th minute.
The lead was doubled five minutes into the second half as Wilfred Ndidi powered in a header from Lookman’s corner to make it 2–0. Nigeria further tightened their grip on the match in the 66th minute when Lookman capped an impressive performance with a fine goal.
Tunisia responded in the 74th minute through Montassar Talbi’s header, before Ali Abdi converted a late penalty in the 86th minute following a VAR review for handball, reducing the deficit to one goal.
Despite late pressure from the Carthage Eagles, Nigeria held firm to claim all three points. The Super Eagles now have six points from two matches and are assured of a place in the knockout stage, with their final group game against Uganda scheduled for Tuesday.
