World-famous boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a road traffic accident on Monday afternoon in Makun, Ogun State. The incident reportedly occurred shortly after 11 a.m. along a busy stretch of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle conveying Joshua—a Lexus SUV with registration number KRD 850 HN—collided with a stationary truck under circumstances that are yet to be fully determined. The accident happened near Danco Filling Station in Makun, just before the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound lane.
Joshua was said to have sustained only minor injuries and received immediate attention at the scene. Tragically, however, two occupants of the vehicle lost their lives instantly.
An eyewitness who participated in the rescue efforts described the convoy as consisting of two vehicles: a Lexus SUV and a Pajero SUV. “Joshua was seated behind the driver, with another passenger beside him. There was also a passenger in the front seat next to the driver, making four people in the Lexus,” the witness said. “His security team was in the vehicle behind them.”
The eyewitness added that passersby quickly mobilized to help rescue the occupants and alerted oncoming vehicles to prevent further accidents. Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) arrived at the scene shortly after. Unfortunately, the passenger seated beside the driver and the individual seated next to Joshua were confirmed dead at the scene.
Authorities have since begun investigations to determine the exact cause of the crash, while traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted during rescue and recovery operations.
