Nigerian billionaire businessman and Chairman of BUA Group, Alhaji AbdulSamad Rabiu, has once again demonstrated his unwavering support for Nigerian sports by honoring his $500,000 pledge to the Super Eagles, despite their semi-final defeat to Morocco.
The Super Eagles had earlier secured a spot in the semi-finals after an impressive victory over Algeria in the quarter-final stage of the tournament. Following that triumph, Alhaji Rabiu publicly promised to reward the team with $500,000 if they defeated host nation Morocco in the semi-final, along with an additional $50,000 bonus for every goal scored.
However, the much-anticipated clash ended in heartbreak for Nigeria, as the Super Eagles lost 4–2 on penalties to Morocco after a tense encounter on Wednesday night. Despite the outcome falling short of expectations, Alhaji Rabiu reaffirmed his commitment to the team, announcing that he would still fulfill the promised reward.
Taking to social media after the match, the BUA Group chairman praised the players for their passion, resilience, and determination.
“You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud,” he wrote.
He emphasized that while victory is always the goal, the team’s unity, fighting spirit, and dedication were equally worthy of celebration. According to him, the Super Eagles’ journey and effort brought joy to millions of Nigerians and deserved recognition.
“As a token of appreciation for your remarkable journey and effort, I am still going ahead to fulfill the pledge of $500,000 USD,” Rabiu stated, noting that the gesture was in recognition of their hard work and commitment to the nation.
He concluded by encouraging the players to remain confident and optimistic about the future, expressing belief in their ability to achieve even greater success in upcoming competitions.
“Keep your heads high, Super Eagles. Nigeria will always be proud of you, and we believe in your future victories.”
