It was an action-packed weekend for Nigerian stars across Europe, as members of the Super Eagles delivered standout performances for their respective clubs in league and cup competitions.
Iwobi Marks Milestone in FA Cup Win
In England, Alex Iwobi celebrated a major career milestone as Fulham edged Stoke City 2-1 in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday. The Super Eagles midfielder, who featured for the full 90 minutes, made his 100th appearance for Fulham and delivered an assured performance in midfield. His Nigerian teammate, Calvin Bassey, was named on the bench but did not feature.
Elsewhere in the FA Cup, Tolu Arokodare played the entire match as Wolverhampton Wanderers secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Grimsby Town. The striker has now scored five goals across all competitions for Wolves this season.
Mixed Fortunes in Spain
In Spain, Nigerian duo Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke were both involved as Sevilla FC played out a 1-1 draw against Deportivo Alaves in a La Liga clash on Saturday.
Adams, making his 18th appearance of the season, has now contributed six goals and two assists in all competitions. He was substituted in the 81st minute after an impressive display. Ejuke, on the other hand, came on in the 70th minute to register his 16th appearance of the campaign.
Ademola Lookman featured for Atlético Madrid in their 3–0 away loss to Rayo Vallecano in La Liga on Sunday. The 28-year-old was introduced in the 63rd minute. Since arriving during the winter transfer window, he has registered two goals and two assists in four appearances for Atlético.
Onuachu and Osimhen Shine in Turkey
In Turkey, Paul Onuachu continued his red-hot form despite Trabzonspor suffering a 3-2 defeat to title rivals Fenerbahce at Papara Park. Onuachu scored Trabzonspor’s second goal with a powerful header just before halftime, extending his scoring streak to five consecutive matches in all competitions. The 31-year-old has now amassed 16 league goals and one assist in 19 appearances this season.
Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen was instrumental in Galatasaray’s emphatic 5-1 win over Eyupspor in the Turkish Super Lig. Osimhen wasted no time making an impact, assisting Yunus Akgün for the opening goal just two minutes into the match. Early in the second half, he set up Mauro Icardi to extend the lead to 3-0. The 27-year-old now boasts 15 goals and three assists in all competitions this season.
Tough Night for Dele-Bashiru in Italy
In Italy, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru played the full 90 minutes as Lazio fell 2-0 to Atalanta in a Serie A encounter on Saturday. Making his 12th appearance of the season, the midfielder is still searching for his first goal for the Rome-based club.
Moffi Debuts in Portugal
In Portugal, Terem Moffi made his debut for FC Porto in their 1-0 away league victory over Madeira on Sunday. The forward, who joined from French side Nice during the winter transfer window, came on in the 74th minute.
His compatriot, Zaidu Sanusi, featured for the entire match as Porto secured all three points on the road.
