Onuachu Ends Goal Drought in Turkey
In Turkey, Paul Onuachu returned to the scoresheet in style, scoring twice in Trabzonspor’s emphatic 5-0 home victory over Genclerbirligi in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.
The Nigerian striker had gone five games without scoring in all competitions before the encounter, but he quickly put that drought behind him. Onuachu opened the scoring in the fifth minute when he rose high to head home a cross from Aral Şimşir.
The forward doubled his personal tally in the 22nd minute, finishing from close range after connecting with another cross to help Trabzonspor establish a commanding lead. Unfortunately, Onuachu’s impressive outing was cut short as he was forced off in the 44th minute after picking up an injury.
Osimhen Maintains Impressive Scoring Form
Victor Osimhen continued his remarkable start to the season as Galatasaray edged Istanbul Başakşehir 3-2 in a thrilling Turkish Super Lig encounter on Friday.
The Super Eagles striker gave the defending champions the lead in the 13th minute, producing a brilliant finish after being set up by Lucas Torreira.
Osimhen has now scored six goals and provided two assists in just four league appearances for Galatasaray this season, underlining his importance to the Turkish giants.
However, like Onuachu, Osimhen was unable to complete the game after suffering an injury in the first half.
Arokodare Keeps Scoring for Ajax
In the Netherlands, Tolu Arokodare continued his impressive scoring run for Ajax despite his side suffering a 3-1 home defeat to PSV Eindhoven in Saturday’s Eredivisie clash.
Arokodare found the net once again, extending his scoring streak to four consecutive games. The Nigerian international has also scored in back-to-back league matches since joining Ajax on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
His latest goal against PSV took his tally for the season in all competitions to five goals, highlighting his excellent start in Amsterdam.
Chukwueze Provides Assist Against Juventus
In Italy, Samuel Chukwueze recorded another assist for AC Milan in their 1-1 draw against Juventus in Sunday’s Serie A showdown.
The Nigerian winger came on in the second half and made an immediate impact, setting up teammate Alphadjo Cissé for Milan’s goal. Chukwueze has now registered two assists in three league appearances this season as he continues to contribute to Milan’s attacking play.
Meanwhile, Nigerian midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro featured for Monza in their 1-1 draw against Parma. The midfielder was making his second appearance of the season for Monza and has already recorded one assist this campaign.
Iwobi Makes Premier League History
In England, Alex Iwobi reached a major milestone during Fulham’s 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
The Nigerian midfielder made his 100th Premier League appearance for Fulham, becoming the first African footballer and only the fifth player overall to make at least 100 appearances in the competition for three different clubs. Iwobi previously reached the century mark with Arsenal before making 123 Premier League appearances for Everton.
Calvin Bassey also featured for Fulham against Crystal Palace, playing the full 90 minutes.
Ajayi Helps Hull City Hold Aston Villa
Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi was in action as Hull City played out a goalless draw against Aston Villa on Saturday. The Nigerian centre-back made his third appearance for the Tigers this season and delivered a solid defensive display as Hull City kept Villa from creating any serious threat.
Awoniyi and Onyeka Feature Against Manchester City
Taiwo Awoniyi and Frank Onyeka both started for Coventry City in their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.
Onyeka played until the 63rd minute before being substituted, while Awoniyi was replaced in the 71st minute. Although Coventry were unable to secure a positive result, both Nigerian internationals were handed starting roles in the difficult encounter.
Moses Simon Features for Paris FC
In France, Moses Simon made his third appearance of the season for Paris FC as they secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Marseille in Sunday’s Ligue 1 clash. The Super Eagles winger started the game on the bench before coming on in the 78th minute. Simon delivered a decent performance during his brief time on the pitch but is still searching for his first goal of the season.
Onyedika Starts for Frankfurt
In Germany, Raphael Onyedika played the full 90 minutes for Frankfurt in their heavy 4-1 Bundesliga defeat to Augsburg on Sunday.
It was the Nigerian midfielder’s second league appearance since completing his move from Club Brugge during the summer transfer window. Despite his full-game involvement, Onyedika could not prevent Frankfurt from suffering a disappointing defeat.
Ajibade Scores for PSG Feminine
In women’s football, Super Falcons star Rasheed Ajibade opened her scoring account for PSG Feminine in their 2-0 victory over RC Lens on Sunday. Ajibade scored the opening goal of the game after being set up by fellow Nigerian international Jennifer Echegini.
The goal came in PSG Feminine’s opening league fixture of the season and provided a perfect start for Ajibade as she looks to make her mark with the French giants.
