Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the season in stunning fashion as Brighton & Hove Albion produced a dominant display to beat the champions 3-0 at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.

The Seagulls entered the encounter full of confidence after impressive victories over Coventry City and Manchester United, and they immediately brought that intensity to the contest. Arsenal, meanwhile, struggled to cope with Brighton’s pressing and energy, and looked unusually unsettled in possession.
Brighton’s pressure eventually paid off in the 31st minute when Pascal Gross opened the scoring. The midfielder found space on the edge of the Arsenal penalty area before unleashing a low effort that struck the post and found the back of the net, leaving David Raya with little chance.
Arsenal attempted to respond but found it difficult to establish their usual rhythm. Their best opportunity to equalise came shortly before half-time when the ball fell to Bukayo Sakainside the area following a deflected effort from Martin Odegaard. However, Saka was unable to convert the chance.
Brighton immediately punished the missed opportunity. Just seconds later, Charalampos Kostoulas was allowed too much space on the edge of the box. The Brighton forward turned before firing past Raya to double the hosts’ advantage and send them into the break 2-0 ahead.
Mikel Arteta decided against making changes at half-time as Arsenal looked to mount a comeback. However, the response never arrived.
Twelve minutes into the second half, Brighton extended their lead when Chema Andres rose to head home from a Pascal Gross corner, making it 3-0 and completing a remarkable afternoon for the hosts.
The result capped an extraordinary week for Brighton, who had now scored 11 goals across their last three matches, following a five-goal victory over Coventry and a dramatic 3-2 comeback win over Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup.
Arsenal had opportunities to reduce the deficit late in the game, but Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen stood firm. Kai Havertz found himself through on goal but could only shoot straight at Verbruggen, who made the save to preserve Brighton’s clean sheet.
At the other end, Matt O’Riley came close to adding a fourth, but Raya denied the Brighton midfielder.
The final whistle confirmed a memorable 3-0 victory for Brighton and a first setback of the season for Arsenal.
