Newly promoted Barau FC continued their impressive start to life in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after securing a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to Sporting Lagos on Saturday.
Joseph Atule gave Barau FC the lead in the 34th minute, confidently converting from the penalty spot. Sporting Lagos responded after the break, with Sodiq Ayoade finding the equaliser in the 61st minute. The point extended Barau FC’s unbeaten run to six matches and kept them at the top of the NPFL standings with 12 points.
Enyimba Pick Up First Point
Enyimba’s difficult start to the 2026/27 NPFL season continued as the nine-time champions were held to a goalless draw by Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday. The draw gave Enyimba their first point of the campaign after defeats in their previous four matches. Kano Pillars, meanwhile, maintained their unbeaten record.
Rangers Suffer First Defeat
Defending champions Enugu Rangers suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 2-0 to Ikorodu City at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos. Ikorodu City made a fast start when Aderemi Adeoye opened the scoring just eight minutes into the game with a beautiful free kick. Ikechukwu Junior then doubled the hosts’ lead three minutes after the hour mark to secure all three points.
Abia Warriors Record Biggest Win
Abia Warriors produced the biggest victory of the matchday, beating Bendel Insurance 3-0 in Aba. Ikoi Etta opened the scoring in the 16th minute before striker Emeka Obioma took centre stage. The forward scored twice, in the 24th and 40th minutes, to complete a convincing win for Imama Amapakabo’s side.
Plateau United Move into Second
Plateau United climbed to second place in the league standings following a 2-0 victory over Inter Lagos at the New Jos Stadium. Gideon Monday and Jibrin Ibrahim were on target for Gbenga Ogunbote’s side as Plateau United secured maximum points on home soil.
Kun Khalifat Claim First Win
Kun Khalifat FC finally recorded their first victory of the season with a narrow 1-0 win over Kwara United at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri. Igwe Igweuzo scored the decisive goal in the 64th minute to give the hosts a much-needed three points.
Warri Wolves Edge Shooting Stars
Warri Wolves also claimed a 1-0 victory, defeating Shooting Stars thanks to an early goal from Othuke Egbo. Egbo struck in the eighth minute, and his goal proved enough to settle the contest. The defeat leaves 3SC in 16th position, just one point above the relegation zone.
Katsina United Beat Doma United
Katsina United secure a 2-1 victory over Doma United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium. Luis Dadong opened the scoring for the hosts from the penalty spot after 12 minutes. Doma United responded through Sadiq Rilwan, who equalised three minutes after the half-hour mark. Mukhtar Ismail eventually restored Katsina United’s lead 15 minutes from full time, sealing all three points for the home side.
