Shooting Stars ended their six-game winless streak courtesy of a hard-earned 1-0 victory against Bayelsa United at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan on Sunday.
Kareem Ademola scored the decisive goal of the game in the 11th minute.
Bayelsa United have now lost four of their last five game, and have only won a game in their last 12 NPFL matches.
In the South West derby in Ikenne, Remo Stars returned to the top of the log after a 2-0 victory against Sunshine Stars of Akure on Sunday. Aniekeme Okon scored the two goals in added minutes of the game.
At the Eket Township Stadium, Akwa United rallied from a goal down to beat Abia Warriors 3-1 on Sunday. Emmanuel Onu put the visitors in front through in the 27th minute. But Saidu Mubarak, David Philip and Mohammed Hadi scored for Akwa United to record their first win in four games.
At the Enyimba international stadium, champions Enyimba defeated Sporting Lagos 2-0 in Aba. Ekwutoziam Eze and Elijah Akanni were the goal scorers for the Aba giants. The People’s Elephant are now unbeaten in their last five league games, while Sporting Lagos remain without a win in their last five games.
While in Ilorin, Lobi Stars of Makurdi recorded the only away win of the day, defeating Kwara United 2-0. Godwin Oshagbemi put the visitors in front in the 21st minute, while Stanley Oganbor doubled the lead a minute before the break.
In the battle of the former champions, Kano Pillars beat Plateau United 2-1 at the Sani Abacha stadium on Sunday. Plateau United went in front through Albert Hilary on the stroke of half time, but Pillars fought back through goals from Haruna Abdullahi and Abdullahi Musa to earn the maximum three points.
At the Pantami stadium in Gombe, former champions Rivers United were held to a 1-1 draw by Gombe United. Andy Okpe opened the scoring for Rivers United on the stroke of half time to put the visitors in front. However, Wasiu Alalade restored leveled for the home team three minutes later.
