Saudi Pro League club Al Etiffaq have agreed to terminate Jordan Henderson’s contract. The England midfielder is on the verge of a return to Europe – just six months after quitting the Premier League for the riches of Saudi Arabia.
The former Liverpool captain will leave their training camp in Abu Dhabi and return to England, as he searches for a new club. However, Henderson is close to joining Ajax, and preparations are being made for his arrival in Amsterdam but no deal has yet been concluded.
The 33-year-old was lured away from Anfield in the summer by Al-Ettifaq, who are understood to have offered Henderson a highly lucrative three-year contract worth around £700,000-a-week. However, Henderson’s time in the Middle East has failed to live up to expectations and is seemingly now coming to a premature end.
Reports have suggested he’s not happy in Saudi Arabia, and wants to return to Europe.
Henderson linked up with ex-Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, who is Al-Ettifaq manager, but appears to be heading back to Europe, having made just 17 appearances in the Saudi Pro League.
