The second stanza of the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season resumed over the weekend, as matches went down in stadia across the country on Saturday and Sunday.
Remo Stars reclaim top position in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) log after playing a goalless draw away at Abia Warriors on Sunday. Daniel Ogunmodede’s team lead the table with 36 points, same points with second placed Lobi Stars, but with better goal difference.
At the New Jos Stadium, Plateau United claimed a 3-2 win against Lobi Stars on Sunday. Mohammed Umar gave Plateau United the lead four minutes before the break, while Albert Hilary added the second goal in the 53rd minute. However, Kumanga Suur reduced the deficit for the visitors three minutes later.
Chijioke Mbaoma scored the winner as Enyimba defeated Shooting Stars of Ibadan 1-0 at the Enyimba stadium on Saturday. Mbaoma scored the only goal of the game three minutes before halftime. The striker was also on target in Enyimba’s 2-1 win against the Oluyole Warriors in the reverse fixture in Ibadan last month. In the other game on Saturday, Heartland of Owerri played out a 1-1 draw with Kano Pillars. Ibrahim Mustapha put Pillars in front in the 29th minute, but Malachi Ohawume savaged a point for the Naze Millionaires in additional time with an acrobatic finish.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Sporting Lagos defeated Bendel Insurance 1-0 with Tochukwu Michael scoring the winning goal in the 56th minute as the Lagosians recorded back to back wins for the first time this season.
At the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on Sunday, Bayelsa United defeated Gombe United 2-0. Bashir Mansur scored an own goal to put Bayelsa in front 13 minutes into the game, while Ifeanyi Assurance gave Bayelsa United the assurance of all three points after he doubled the lead eight minutes from time.
At the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday, Rivers United defeated Doma United 3-2. Captain Nyima Nwagua registered a hat trick after scoring all three goals for the Pride of Rivers. Bidemi Owoku and Hilary Ekawu were on target for the visiting Doma United.
In Enugu, Rangers recorded a 1-0 victory against Akwa United. Kazeem Ogunleye scored the only goal of the game three minutes after the break.
