England-born Luton Town player of Nigerian descent Elijah Adebayo says he’s open to playing for the Super Eagles of Nigeria. The striker was born in England to Nigerian parents but has never made any appearance at international level despite being eligible to play for England and Nigeria.
Adebayo has been outstanding for Luton Town Luton Town, who are battling to stay in the top flight after gaining promotion to the Premier League for the first time in the club’s history in 2023.
While speaking on where his international future lied, Adebayo said, “I would like to play for Nigeria. It would make my mum happy, make her proud. That’s something we’ve spoken about.
“Playing for England? It would be a case of whichever comes first. My mum would be proud if I played for Nigeria or England, but Nigeria especially.”
The 26-year-old is Luton Town’s top scorer in the league this season with nine goals in 23 matches. The striker has also scored against big teams like Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Adebayo made history after scoring a hat-trick in Luton Town’s 4-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in January, becoming the first player to score a Premier League hat-trick for the club.
Gabriel Osho is another player in the club who’s eligible to play for Nigeria. The defender has made 14 Premier League appearances for the club this season.
