Rivers United boosted their chances of qualifying for the knockout stage of the CAF Confederation Cup following a 3-2 away win over Academica do Lobito of Angola in Luanda on Sunday.
The home time went in front from the penalty spot in the 37th minute, but Udom Edem Ekarette equalised for Rivers United three minutes later.
The Stanley Eguma’s team went in front for the first time in the game after Alex Oyowah converted from the spot a minute before halftime. Just three minutes after the break, Farouk Mohammed doubled the advantage to put the Pride of Rivers 3-1 up.
However, Fernando Camuege reduced the deficit for the home team in the 67th minute, but the Nigerian team ran away with all three points as the game ended 2-3.
Rivers United remain in the third position in Group C with nine points from five games, and will lock horns with group leaders Dreams FC of Ghana in their final group game next week Sunday. A win against the Ghanians will boast Rivers United’s hope of qualifying for the knockout stage.
