Former Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi says he’s doing everything possible to convince Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen to join the Blues this summer.
Osimhen has been linked with moves to clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal and PSG lately. Goal Getter Media had earlier reported that Chelsea are reportedly prepared to trigger the €130m (£111m) release clause in Osimhen’s Napoli contract in order to bring him to Stamford Bridge during the summer’s transfer window.
While speaking at a Web Summit Qatar, Mikel stated that he wants Osimhen to join the league of Nigerian players that have played for Chelsea.
“I think there’s genuine interest between both (Chelsea and Osimhen),” Mikel said.
“I think he loves the club, he wants to come to the club, obviously he wants to follow in my footsteps as a Nigerian player who has played for Chelsea, like Victor Moses, Celestine Babayaro, there’s not a lot of us.
“But he also has a lot of interest, like PSG, Man United, but I’m still pushing, sending him messages, trying to make sure he doesn’t expect too much, just narrow your mind on one club: The Blues!”
The 25-year-old scored 26 Serie A goals last season to help Napoli win the league title for the first time in 33 years. The Nigerian striker signed a new contract with the Naples club last December until June 2026, but he’s now set to leave the Italian champions.
