Inter Milan have won their 20th Italian Serie A title after beating arch-rivals AC Milan 2-1 in a historic Derby della Madonnina on Tuesday night at the San Siro stadium.
Francesco Acerbi opened the scoring in the 18th minute when he was left all alone in the penalty area to nod home a Federico Dimarco corner which had been flicked on by Benjamin Pavard.
French forward Thuram then doubled the lead five minutes into the second half when he cut inside from the left and buried a low shot past compatriot Mike Maignan.
England’s Fikayo Tomori headed in from close range to give Milan brief hope 10 minutes before time.
Before Inter’s title win was confirmed, tensions boiled over, with three red cards shown in stoppage time as Theo Hernandez and Davide Calabria were sent off for AC Milan, while Denzel Dumfries was dismissed for Inter.
Inter’s 20th Italian crown takes them above AC Milan’s 19 Serie A titles and only below Juventus. But this was only their second title since 2010, last winning under Antonio Conte in 2021.
Simone Inzaghi has brought the good times back to the Nerazzurri, cruising to the Scudetto with five games to spare on the back of a 27-game unbeaten run in the league.
