Chelsea have confirmed that the club and Mauricio Pochettino have mutually agreed to part ways after the Argentine led the Blues to a sixth place Premier League finish this season.
The club announced the departure on its official website on Tuesday evening. Sporting Directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said: “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season. He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career.”
Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez and Sebastiano Pochettino have left the club with Mauricio.
Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness, Girona’s Michel, Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna and Leicester’s Enzo Maresca are among the candidates to potentially be considered.
Roberto Di Zerbi will be one name that stands out at the top of the list. The Italian left Brighton just a few days ago and his experience in the Premier League along with his talent for moulding young players will certainly appeal to the board at the London club.
Another candidate is Thomas Tuchel. The German has been at Chelsea before and is still, despite failing with Bayern this season, an elite coach at the top of his game.
Whether or not he could convince the Chelsea board and fans to believe in him is one thing, but that Champions League win against Manchester City a few years ago still stands out as a high point in the club’s history.
