Nigeria’s Flamingos continued their impressive form at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a commanding 4-0 win over debutants Ecuador in their second Group A match on Saturday.
A brace from Shakirat Moshood, along with goals from Peace Effiong and Chidera Chidi, ensured a comfortable victory for the Nigerian side, making it two wins in two games. The Flamingos had opened their campaign with a 4-1 triumph against New Zealand, and their latest performance sees them top Group A with six points.
Moshood got things underway in the 28th minute, calmly converting a penalty to put Nigeria ahead. Chidera Chidi doubled the lead in the 54th minute with a precise low left-footed strike that found the back of the net, out of reach for Ecuador’s goalkeeper.
The Flamingos extended their advantage further when Peace Effiong capitalized on a poor clearance by the Ecuadorian keeper in the 66th minute, making it 3-0 with a simple finish into an open goal. Moshood rounded off the scoring with her second goal of the match in stoppage time, firing in a brilliant left-footed shot from a well-worked cutback.
With two wins in two games, Nigeria sits comfortably at the top of Group A. The Flamingos will look to maintain their winning streak when they face host nation Dominican Republic on Wednesday, October 23.
