Bayer Leverkusen’s Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface, narrowly escaped serious harm after being involved in a car accident on Saturday. The incident occurred shortly after Boniface helped his team secure a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, where he scored the decisive goal.
The 23-year-old forward was taken to the hospital in the evening following a major crash involving the Mercedes he was traveling in. According to Bundesliga champions Leverkusen, Boniface sustained only minor injuries to his hand and is expected to make a full recovery. German news outlet Bild reported that despite the seriousness of the crash, Boniface is “doing well considering the circumstances.”
Boniface took to Instagram to share images and a video of the wrecked Mercedes, as well as a photo of his bloodied hand. He also posted a selfie from the hospital with a caption expressing his gratitude: “Thank you, Lord.” On Sunday, Boniface shared more on social media, writing, “God is the greatest” and “God says my time hasn’t come.”
It has been confirmed that Boniface was not driving at the time of the accident. He was on his way to Frankfurt airport to pick up friends when the crash occurred.
Despite the harrowing incident, Boniface’s quick recovery has been a relief to his fans and teammates, as he continues to be an essential player for Leverkusen this season.
