The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has officially lodged an appeal against a recent ruling by the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Disciplinary Board, which awarded Nigeria’s Super Eagles three points and three goals for the disrupted AFCON 2025 Group D qualifier originally scheduled for October 15 in Benghazi.
CAF’s Disciplinary Board announced the ruling on October 26, 2024, stating that the LFF had breached specific tournament regulations, resulting in a $50,000 fine alongside the points and goals awarded to Nigeria.
This decision was based on the board’s findings from their October 23 meeting in Cairo, Egypt, where they cited violations of Article 31 of the African Cup of Nations Regulations, as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
Unhappy with what they deem an unjust decision, the LFF has enlisted renowned Tunisian lawyer Ali Abbas to spearhead the appeal. According to Libyan news outlet Alwasat.ly, Abbas will challenge the fairness of CAF’s decision, hoping to overturn both the awarded points and the substantial fine imposed on Libya.
