La Liga side Valencia have bolstered their attack with the signing of Nigeria international Umar Sadiq on loan from Real Sociedad for the remainder of the season. The deal, which costs Valencia a €1 million loan fee, includes an option to make the transfer permanent for under €10 million this summer.
The 27-year-old striker becomes the first signing under new manager Carlos Corberan, as the struggling Los Che aim to climb out of the relegation zone. Valencia have endured a tough season, scoring just 17 goals in 18 league matches, making Sadiq’s arrival a crucial addition to their attacking options.
Sadiq’s move to the Mestalla follows a frustrating stint at Real Sociedad. The Nigerian forward managed only six appearances this season, starting twice.
His time at Sociedad has been hampered by injury setbacks. Sadiq started the 2022/23 season in sensational form, netting three goals in five matches, including a memorable debut strike against Atletico Madrid.
However, an anterior cruciate ligament injury sidelined him for 11 months, derailing his momentum. Since his return, he has struggled to regain the form that once made him Sociedad’s record signing, failing to score or register an assist in the league this season.
Sadiq is set to link up with his new teammates next week, and Valencia will be hoping he can rediscover his sharpness in front of goal to help them secure their La Liga survival.
