Carlos Alcaraz delivered a sensational performance to defeat Jannik Sinner and capture his second US Open title, officially claiming the world No. 1 ranking in the process.
The road to the championship wasn’t without its hiccups—security delays frustrated fans at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday, causing a 30-minute postponement of the final and leaving thousands still waiting outside the stadium plaza. With President Donald Trump among the spectators, the 24,000-seat stadium was only about two-thirds full when play finally began.
Once on court, Alcaraz wasted no time asserting his dominance. Serving with precision and composure, he secured a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory, dethroning Sinner to become the new world No. 1.
True to form, Alcaraz celebrated with his signature golf swing mimic, a gesture that has become his trademark throughout the tournament. He then sprinted to his coaching box, sharing the moment with his team and family.
At just 22 years old, the Spaniard has now amassed an impressive six Grand Slam titles, cementing his status as one of the sport’s brightest stars.
Speaking after the game, Alcaraz said, “I want to start with Jannik – it’s unbelievable what you have done in the whole season. I see you more than my family. It’s great to share everything with you and watch you improve, working hard every day. Congratulations to you.
“My team, my family – I’m lucky to have you guys. You work hard to make me better and not just professionally but personally too.
“Every achievement I have is thanks to you. This one is also yours. I’m lucky to have my brother, my uncle and father – my little brother and mother are watching at home. Thank you so much.
“This is super special for me. The three weeks I spent here are a privilege. I feel at home and feel the energy and love here.”
