It was a weekend of mixed fortunes in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) as Matchday 10 delivered upsets, and some brilliant individual performances across various centres.
In Bauchi, Wikki Tourists ended Shooting Stars’ impressive five-game unbeaten run with a convincing 2-0 victory. Abdullahi Usman opened the scoring in the 31st minute before Jonathan Mairiga doubled the hosts’ advantage three minutes before halftime, sealing an important win for the Tourists.
At the New Jos Stadium, Plateau United triumphed 2-1 over Enyimba in a thrilling encounter. Monday Gideon fired the hosts ahead five minutes after the restart, but Jonathan Jacob levelled for Enyimba in the 68th minute. Gideon, however, had the final say, bagging his brace in the 76th minute to hand Plateau United all three points.
In Enugu, Rangers International and Kwara United battled to a hard-fought goalless draw, with both sides missing key chances to break the deadlock.
Elsewhere, Katsina United earned a narrow 1-0 victory over El Kanemi Warriors on Saturday. Abubakar Auwal’s early strike in the 6th minute proved decisive, giving the hosts a vital home win.
Warri Wolves continued their fine form with a 2-0 win against Bayelsa United in Ozoro, extending their unbeaten streak to four games. Igbunu Evwierhurhoma was the hero of the day, scoring in the 16th minute and sealing the win with a late goal in added time.
Kano Pillars’ struggles deepened as they suffered a 2-0 home loss to Niger Tornadoes in what was Mohammed Babaganaru’s first game in charge. Abdulrasheed Dabai put the visitors ahead just before the hour mark, and Terdoo Shimagande doubled the lead later on. Pillars now find themselves in the relegation zone, having secured just one win in their last five matches.
Abia Warriors climbed to second on the table after a commanding 2-0 victory over Barau FC. Emeka Obioma opened the scoring in the 16th minute, while Sunday Megwo added a second in the 62nd to seal a comfortable win.
Finally, Kun Khalifat and Bendel Insurance settled for a 1-1 draw. Kayode Oke gave Insurance an early lead in the 2nd minute, but Uche Moses equalised for the hosts just after the hour mark. The result means Kun Khalifat remain unbeaten in their last four matches.
The NPFL continues to heat up as teams jostle for top spots and fight to avoid the drop, with Matchday 11 promising even more excitement across the league.
