Rivers United continue to struggle in the CAF Champions League group stage as they suffered a 1–0 defeat to Zambia’s Power Dynamos at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Sunday.
The decisive moment came just five minutes into the second half when Kondwani Chiboni found the back of the net, handing the visitors a historic victory. The goal proved enough to separate both sides in a tightly contested Matchday Four encounter.
The win marked a significant milestone for Power Dynamos, as it was their first-ever victory in the CAF Champions League group stage. The result lifted Oswald Mutapa’s side to third place in Group C, with four points from four matches, keeping their qualification hopes alive.
Power Dynamos will now turn their attention to their next fixture against Moroccan outfit RS Berkane, whom they host on Saturday.
For Rivers United, the defeat was another setback in an already difficult campaign. Finidi George’s men remain without a win and now sit at the bottom of Group C. They face another tough test in their next outing against defending champions Pyramids FC of Egypt as they look to revive their continental ambitions.
