Several Nigerian footballers were in action across Europe over the weekend, with Kelechi Iheanacho, Tolu Arokodare and Gift Orban among the standout performers after they found the back of the net.
Iheanacho Continues Remarkable Scoring Run in Turkey
Kelechi Iheanacho continued his impressive form in Turkey, scoring twice to help Bursaspor complete a comeback victory over Batman Petrolspor.
Bursaspor found themselves behind, but the Nigeria international restored parity from the penalty spot on the hour mark. Iheanacho then completed the comeback five minutes before full time, securing a crucial 2-1 away victory for his side.
The brace means Iheanacho has now scored in eight consecutive league games for Bursaspor. He has also registered 11 goals and two assists for the club so far this season.
Orban Scores and Assists Against Beşiktaş
Gift Orban was also among the Nigerian players to make a major impact in Turkey, scoring and providing an assist as Amedspor defeated Beşiktaş 3-2 in the Turkish Süper Lig on Sunday. Orban opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a powerful long-range effort from around 25 metres. Nine minutes later, he turned provider, setting up Dia Saba to double Amedspor’s advantage.
The 24-year-old has now scored seven goals and provided two assists in six Turkish top-flight appearances this season. He has also found the net in each of his last four league appearances for Amedspor.
Onuachu Features in Trabzonspor Win
Paul Onuachu featured for Trabzonspor in their emphatic 4-0 home victory over Galatasaray. The Nigerian striker came off the bench in the 59th minute as Trabzonspor secured a convincing win. His compatriot and fellow Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen was unavailable for Galatasaray due to injury.
Arokodare Rescues Point for Ajax
In the Netherlands, Tolu Arokodare came off the bench to rescue a point for Ajax in their Eredivisie clash against Excelsior on Saturday night.
Ajax were trailing 2-1 in the 62nd minute when Arokodare was introduced. The Nigerian striker needed just two minutes to make an impact, scoring to bring Ajax level at 2-2. The goal was Arokodare’s sixth across all competitions for Ajax this season.
Bassey and Iwobi Feature in Fulham Draw
In England, Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi both featured for Fulham in their 1-1 Premier League draw with Manchester United on Sunday. Bassey played the entire match, while Iwobi featured for 71 minutes as the two Nigerian internationals helped Fulham secure a point.
